The Team

Wayne Elliott

Trying to portray Wayne in a few words is akin to describing the British weather, which changes seamlessly in minutes. From running a sign writing business plus a bike shop in Snainton, to riding, running and kayaking across the country, to leading a group on a leisurely Sunday ride, Wayne doesn't often stop. He also trains future cycle leaders as well as organising competitive cycling events, but he has an understanding of what it takes to start something new, to take on a new challenge, so he is the ideal person to be organising the BoS ride in 2015 after last year's success.

Andrew Backhouse

Nobody trusts a politician, so the TV and papers tell us, but Andrew is genuinely different, a politician who does what he says and is responsive to other viewpoints.

Last year he and his wife Sue, as Mayor and Mayoress decided on an innovative way to visit every town, village and hamlet in the Borough of Scarborough, before the end of his term of duty. Despite a series of obstacles where others would have fallen, he showed enthusiasm plus a steely determination to fulfil the vision and so Ride the BoS was born and grew into a viable entity.

Andrews charm on the one hand coupled with some delicate Yorkshire phrasing helped keep the team working together and he set a great personal example to all around him. In 2015 he will be one of the team leaders on the ride having undertaken the required training, so going from rookie rider to leader in a year.

Sue Backhouse

Before last year's BoS ride Sue had never been on a racing bike or even considered long distance riding, but in an amazingly short period of time she progressed from beginner to experienced rider, even managing to climb all the challenging hills presented by the BoS ride and doing it with a smile!

Husband, Andrew often commented on her prowess in the saddle and the fact that he was often left trailing in her wake. Sue is a great example to all those people who say "I can't do it" . She tried and surprised herself and is now looking forward to leading a group on the next ride.

Sue was also very much part of the development of the ride and in particular the refreshments provided along the way which kept everyone well fed and watered as well as bringing in all the local communities as part of the event.
